A maintenance or construction scope succeeds or fails on its management: the quality plan agreed before work starts, the appointments and safety file in place before anyone is on site, the hold points witnessed, the programme reported truthfully and the data book closed out. Umbusso Engineers provides one accountable contract manager from award to final documentation, and our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 with project management and contract management in its scope.
On 13 October 2025 Eskom appointed Umbusso as Main Contractor under section 16(2) of the OHS Act and Construction Regulation 5(1)(k) for a slurry plant rubber-lining contract, with responsibility for the safety file, appointments, permits and confined-space controls as well as the work itself. We also manage supervised-resources contracts, such as the year-long Eskom pumps-maintenance workshop services contract, and refurbishment contracts such as the simulator building upgrade.
What we do
- Contract administration under Eskom and NEC-based contract forms: programme, correspondence, variations, reporting and close-out.
- Main Contractor appointments under the OHS Act and Construction Regulations, with safety file, competent-person appointments and permits.
- Outage and shutdown planning: scope definition, resourcing, quality control plan and inspection and test plan preparation.
- Site supervision and management of supervised resources, rosters, medicals and access.
- Technical advisory and risk mitigation: baseline risk assessments, method statements and quality planning before a scope is priced.
- Data-book compilation: method statements, QCPs, calibration certificates, material traceability, inspection reports and NCR close-outs.
Standards, quality and documentation
Quality, environmental and safety management systems certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 by Assurance Quality Certification, with a certified scope covering project management, contract management, power plant maintenance, fabrication and welding. Management review minutes are held for our Eskom contracts and every order has its own quality control plan.

Can you take the Main Contractor appointment on our site?
Yes. Umbusso has held an OHS Act section 16(2) / CR 5(1)(k) Main Contractor appointment from Eskom, with the safety file, appointments and permit responsibilities that come with it.
What do you need from us to price an outage scope?
The scope or work list, drawings where they exist, the outage window and access arrangements, and your quality and safety requirements. We return a quality control plan outline with the price so the hold points are agreed before award.
