Umbusso Engineers (Pty) Ltd is a South African engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance company working in power generation, mining, petrochemical and heavy industry. Our work happens where it is hardest to schedule and most expensive to get wrong: inside operating plant, within fixed outage windows, under permit-to-work and isolation regimes that leave no room for improvisation.
We manufacture and refurbish conveyor pulleys and drive components, repair gearboxes and rotating equipment, fabricate and weld pressure piping and structural steel to ISO 3834-2, rubber-line pipes and tanks for slurry service, maintain and load-test overhead cranes and lifting tackle, and manage contracts and outage scopes end to end. Our quality, environmental and safety management systems are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and we hold CIDB Grade 7 in the mechanical, civil and general building classes.

How we work
The same five steps, from one machined bush to a Main Contractor appointment
Most of what goes wrong on a plant contract goes wrong before anyone picks up a spanner — an unclear scope, a hold point nobody agreed, a data book assembled from memory three months later. We run every order the same way so that none of that is left to chance.

Site visit and scope
We walk the job with you and confirm access, the outage window, isolation and permit requirements, and what the acceptance criteria actually are.
Quotation and quality plan
A priced quotation with a quality control plan outline attached, so the hold and witness points are agreed before award, not argued about afterwards.
Execution
Work runs under permit-to-work and the agreed plan, with witnessed hold points, daily progress reporting and a named contract manager who answers the phone.
Close-out
Inspection records, material certificates, welder qualifications and test results compiled into a data book and handed over with the plant.

Are you registered as an Eskom vendor?
Yes. Umbusso Engineers is a registered Eskom vendor and a registered Transnet vendor, is registered on the Central Supplier Database, and is registered with the NHBRC. Registration numbers are supplied on request and appear in our pre-qualification pack.
What CIDB grading do you hold?
CIDB Grade 7 in three classes — 7ME (mechanical engineering), 7CE (civil engineering) and 7GB (general building) — under registration CRS 10419071. Grade 7 allows us to tender for contracts up to the Grade 7 ceiling in each class.
Can you weld pressure piping and issue the documentation?
Yes. Our welding quality system is certified to ISO 3834-2:2021, and our welders hold current ASME IX performance qualifications working to ASME IX procedure specifications under a named welding coordinator. Every pressure weld is traceable to a qualified procedure, a qualified welder and its material certificates, and the records are compiled into the data book at close-out.
Do you work inside operating plant and under outage conditions?
That is the majority of our work. We plan around fixed outage windows, work under the client’s permit-to-work and isolation regime, and supply our own supervision, medicals, inductions and access administration so the client is not managing our people.
How far do you travel?
We are based in Trichardt, Mpumalanga, in the middle of the Highveld power-station belt, and we work throughout South Africa. Workshop manufacture is done at our Benoni South engineering workshop under a 15-ton overhead crane.
What is your B-BBEE status?
Level 1 contributor, 100% black owned, on a sworn affidavit. A copy is supplied with our pre-qualification pack on request.
